THE SCALEXTRIC CHALLENGE

Racing cars— at some time in our lives we’ve all been transfixed by the beauty, the glamour and the speed and wished we could join in the fun.

While we can’t all jump in a racing car and test ourselves, we can still have a lot of fun racing scaled down versions of the real thing around a purpose built circuit which is a bit bigger than most people can fit in the front room.

The SCALEXTRIC CHALLENGE gives people the opportunity to have a lot of fun racing cars while raising funds for Help for Heroes.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

We’ll be setting up our Scalextric circuit at a variety of venues; places like shopping centres, schools, universities, supermarkets and even on high streets. Venues are constantly being added and can be viewed here. Anyone who would like to have a go at recording a fast (or even not so fast) lap can do, all it costs is £1.00 per go for 6 laps (one warm up and five timed) with all profits going to Help for Heroes.

We’ll be recording the fastest times to display on our online leader board with the very best being invited to take part in our SCALEXTRIC CHALLENGE final at Silverstone on 24th October, courtesy of the British Racing Drivers' Club.

ABOUT HELP FOR HEROES

Help for Heroes was launched in October 2007 by a group of friends and service relations who wished to do something to help the wounded coming back from Afghanistan and Iraq.

Help for Heroes
is very simple; we are strictly non political, we accept that wars happen under any government and we are not critical; we simply want to help.

We called for the people of the United Kingdom to show their support and affection for ‘our blokes’ and to do so by ‘doing their bit’. Our call has been heard throughout Britain and an army of volunteers is fund raising to support our wounded.

People all over the country have done something, run marathons, climbed mountains, ridden bikes, shaved their legs, eaten pies, washed cars, run balls, any number of things as long as they are legal, safe and decent. To date we have raised £17 million or £1million a month to support our blokes.

We have had huge donations, £1.5m from a businessman, and we have had small, a cheque for £0.20p. We have had the country’s top rugby players raise £1.4m at Twickenham and we have Hugo give us the contents of his money box…all donations are of equal value to us and all show that the donors really care.

Our young men and women of the Armed Forces will say that they are not heroes, they will tell you that they are just blokes doing their job. We think that anyone who volunteers to serve in time of war, knowing that they may risk all, is a hero. These are ordinary people doing extraordinary things and some of them are living with the consequences of their service for life.

We may not be able to prevent our blokes from being wounded, but together we can help them get better.

Thank you

ABOUT COWAN GLOBAL EVENTS

The SCALEXTRIC CHALLENGE is the creation of Cowan Global Events, part of Cowan Global Limited.

Cowan Global was formed by former athlete and coach Jim Cowan. Jim has vast experience in the organising of events both small and large, local and international.

Jim has worked on international events such as the London, Dublin and Amsterdam marathons and has advised on The Asian Games.

He has supported and launched a number of hugely successful charity events including coming up with the idea for, designing and launching the UK’s largest women’s participation event, The Race for Life. Jim's events have so far raised over £1/4 Billion for good causes.

Jim’s ethos for events is simple. What they are should be easily understood, they should be fun and at least one sector of society should benefit.

At Cowan Global Events we believe the SCALEXTRIC CHALLENGE will deliver all three and are extremely pleased to be able to support Help for Heroes in their efforts to “do something” for those who selflessly gave on behalf of us all.
